Visa extension

Tourist visa is a type of visa issued to travelers visiting Vietnam for sightseeing and tourism (including visa exemption). After the exemption period expires, visitors can apply for an extension of their Vietnam tourist visa according to regulations. 

Regulations on Vietnam Tourist Visa: 

A Vietnam tourist visa is issued for the purpose of sightseeing, relaxation, and tourism, and it is not intended for long-term stay. Therefore, the duration of a tourist visa is relatively short. 

According to the 2019 Vietnamese Law, the maximum duration of a tourist visa is 3 months. However, foreign tourists are not allowed to stay continuously for 3 months; they must leave Vietnam every 1 month (30 days). If you wish to stay longer, you need to extend your visa. 

Process for Extending a Vietnam Tourist Visa for Foreigners: 

Step 1: Prepare documents for the Vietnam tourist visa extension application

• The original passport that is still valid according to regulations, with at least 1 month of validity remaining beyond the expected extension period.

• The original passport with at least 02 blank pages.

• Visa extension application form – Form NA5 according to regulations.

• Online temporary residence registration or temporary residence registration with the confirmation stamp from the police department where the foreigner is temporarily residing. 

Step 2: Submit the visa extension application

You will submit your application directly to the Immigration Department or the police agency of the province/city where you are temporarily residing.

If the application is valid, you will receive an appointment letter to collect the results. If the application is not valid, you will receive additional instructions from the officer. The processing time is from 5 to 7 working days. 

Step 3: Receive the result of the tourist visa extension

The result of your visa extension will be returned according to the date stated in the appointment letter. 

Cost of Vietnam Tourist Visa Extension:

According to Circular No. 25/2021/TT-BTC, the current Vietnam tourist visa extension fee is 25 USD per unit.
